FASHION MONTH LOWDOWN: NYFW

Fashion month, the most exciting month of the year to stay ahead of the crowd and catch next seasons trends. Here we have your guide on the trends from the main shows at each fashion week. First up; New York.

YEEZY

Kicking off New York Fashion Week at Roosevelt Island’s Four Freedoms Park was Kanye West with his Yeezy Season 4 collection. The show featured a neutral palette of nude, khaki, off-whites and blacks paired with backpacks, oversized jackets and thigh high boots. Contrast to this were looks sporting Spanx material and models going barefoot.
The show had the usual star studded FROW including Anna Wintour, Kim Kardashian, the Jenner sisters and Pharrell Williams. Adding to the mix included Sofia Richie and Teyana Taylor making their NYFW catwalk debuts.

TOMMY HILFIGER

This season Tommy Hilfiger unveiled his long awaited collection with Gigi Hadid.
The show was set on Pier 16 South Street Seaport and was in the theme of fairground featuring fairground rides, candyfloss machines and a 40 foot ferris wheel.
The collection itself  was blend of nautical style with Tommy’s signature classic style alongside typically American styles such as satin bombers and matching satin shorts.
This was Gigi’s debut collection and closed on the model herself walking the ramp.

ALEXANDER WANG

Revealed at the Wang show in New York was his long awaited recent collaboration with Adidas.
The Adidas portion of the show featured all black outfits with an upside down Adidas logo representing Wang’s spin on the street wear brand.
In contrast, Wang’s own collection was very sugary and girly featuring lace trimmed shorts and cami tops in pretty, feminine colours. Juxtaposed to this was a tangy neon palette featuring vivid greens, purples and turquoises.

VICTORIA BECKHAM

The Victoria Beckham show was set in Lower Manhattan. Previously known for her structured, sophisictaed styles, this collection featured a laid-back vibe with loose fitting , non fussy clothes and flat shoes.
Featuring a fresh palette of mint greens, olives, violets and tangerines along with a mix of fabrics such as satins and crushed velvets the collection was just as Victoria described, “… a free spirited look – but not in a bohemian way, if you know what I mean. It’s about clothes that are loose and easy, but still flattering.’

MICHAEL KORS

The Kors show had a theme of ‘high romance’ and featured a lot of Tahitian florals, crisp blazers and high heels.
Featuring daisy prints, 3D flowers and oversized jewellery contrasted with boy-ish oversized cardigans and trench coats Kors kept to a simple palette of black, navy, browns and whites.

MARC JACOBS

Giving a very colourful send off to New York Fashion Week was Marc Jacobs.
With a pastel colour palette with a twist Jacobs sported rainbow feminine maxi dresses, delicate ruffles and frills and cute mini bags alongside tough knee high boots, hotpants and camo jackets.
